Silent moments

It’s been 10 months since I last saw him. My photographic memory is so strong that I remember every moment of our separation. It happened one day in june...

20-06-2024.

Varahi: Delhi metro is the busiest during office hours, We were walking towards the checkpoint at the station. I was not wasting time looking around, only following avyukt’s footsteps.

He looks so attractive to me whenever I see him from both sides of his ears.

Avyukt stopped walking, turned back and looked down toward me. That boy is 6’ft tall and I am only 5’3, so he had to bend his neck..

“Varahi… why are you so absent minded”? Avyukt asked. “Why?” I replied. “you have to go towards the women’s checking line, so why are you following me”? Avyukt said.

I looked around and realized that I was so lost in him and forgot about changing the line…oh how stupid I was. “Oh yeah! i am sorry, I was thinking about something so I didn’t realize.” I replied. It’s okay, I know you’re dumb”. Avyukt said while laughing. “Thanks for the compliment”. I replied with an irritating face as I know his teasing reactions.

The world’s best job for Avyukt was teasing me or I can say roasting me and making me feel dumb.

As we were moving forward, every other step towards metro was taking us away from each other. We were waiting for the metro with an uncomfortable silence between us.

When the metro arrived and we entered, it was too crowded inside. Avyukt knew that I’m afraid of the crowd so he held me towards my waist with one hand and held the handrail with the other one. I looked at him and he looked back; still, there was complete silence between us. Many people were talking and there were different voices but we both were silent.

Avyukt took out his earbuds, connected them to his phone, put one bud in my ear, and the other one in his ear. He played the song “humnava” which was liked by both of us. I was silently looking at him. when he looked towards me, I turned my eyes. There was so much rush that whenever a station came, I was getting pushed again and again and he was holding me every time.

When only seven stations were left I realized that now there is no going back and he is slipping away from me. I was silently looking towards the door and Avyukt was noticing my silence,

”Varahi, my heart feels so heavy and there is a lot of turmoil in my mind". Avyukt said. We were looking at each other and I turned my eyes back. A drop of tear fell from my eye and another fell from the other eye. Avyukt saw my tears but didn’t reacted so I wouldn't feel uncomfortable. He was still silent and watching my movements.

He again said “Varahi, my heart feels so heavy, maybe because we are going to separate after next two stations”.

No no no, Avyukt said something which he shouldn’t. I was slowly moving towards the anxiety, I was unable to breathe properly. My heart was so heavy and tears were controlling their best to not fall from my eyes. Somehow I managed to not react much, and my station came.
