“Stay behind me it’s too crowded”. Avyukt said. “Why”? I asked. “Let me drop you”. Avyukt replied. “It’s okay, I’ll manage”. I said. “Shut up and just do what I’m saying”. Avyukt said. “Rude”. I replied. He laughed again while trying to lighten up the environment between us, but I was in no mood to feel irritated.
He understood my situation since he had a habit of noticing my body language every other tim, he knew my every mood whether I’m upset, laughing, smiling, sad or in any monotonous situation.
He always used to tell me, “Varahi, start reading body language and you’ll understand the mood of a person”. I too started reading his body language and everytime he became silent and stopped teasing me, I could understand that he was tensed about studies. I tried my best to keep up with his every mood and used to talk a lot of nonsense to make him happy but sometimes my words made him angrier.
We came out of the metro and were walking towards the exit…. “So, will you miss me”? Avyukt asked. “Not much”. I answered. “Not much… hmmm, at least you’ll miss me because i’ll not”. Avyukt teased me and then laughed. I smiled back, even though we both knew we were lying.
I didn’t knew much about his feelings but I was lying…because I knew it that every moment of mine will miss him. I never had the strength of telling him the truth.
We stopped in front of an accelerator, “Okay so”. I said. “I’ll come to see you in the future”. Avyukt said. “It’s okay, I’m fine”. I replied and smiled while knowing I’m not. “You’re a great liar”. Avyukt said while smiling back. “Same applies on you Avyukt…I know you won’t miss me and will forget us next day after leaving”. I taunted him while laughing with light teary eyes. “Let me hug you for one last time baby”. I said and hugged him. He held me back tightly.
After 10 seconds I opened my eyes and realised that’s it and it’s the time to leave. While holding myself back and hiding my tears I turned back, said bye in a low voice and moved towards accelerator. I was moving forward and never looked back as I knew that he was standing there and watching me leaving. That one percent hope was expecting from him to stop me but other ninty nine percent knew... he won't.
It was better for me to leave first as if it was him to leave first, I wouldn’t have been able to stop myself and asked him to stop but he never stops. I was moving forward and tears were rolling down my eyes continuously and still I was just moving forward.
And this was it… our last meeting till the date.
To be continued…
